*jumps out from the shadows* I’m back!
Blogging for J4804 was extra credit, but it’s required for J4806. From now until the end of the semester, I’ll be blogging about Major League Baseball. I’ve been a baseball fan ever since the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees in the 2004 ALCS and went on to win the World Series. I’m not 100% sure when I became a die-hard Pittsburgh Pirates fan, but I think it was in 2013 when they beat the Cincinnati Reds in the National League wild card game. My mom is a Reds fan and my dad is a Pirates fan. Bless them for being good sports.
I’m surrounded by the Pirates’ division rivals. In addition to my connection to the Reds, I go to school in Cardinals country, and I’m from the land of Cubs fans, but close enough to Wisconsin to be around Brewers fans. I can count on one hand the other Pirates fans I know here in Columbia. But I’m not discouraged; actually, I’m just more determined to rep my team.
The tweet in the above photo is the best thing I’ve ever tweeted. Francisco Cervelli (catcher) is my favorite Pirate, and my parents got me a Cervelli jersey for Christmas last year. I tweeted it as a meme, and both Cervelli and the Pirates retweeted me. Best Christmas present ever.
I won’t just blog about the Pirates, of course, especially since they’re out of playoff contention. On that note, I’m actually hoping the Cleveland Indians will win the World Series after coming so close last year. We’ll just have to see how the postseason goes, and I’ll be following it and writing about it the whole way through.
